BILLY DEAN MAYFIELD, 56, of Howell, died June 7 at home. He was a technical transfer manager at AT&T, Dayton, for 25 years. He received a graduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a radio technician on nuclear submarines for 12 years. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10691, Dublin, Ohio. He was a master mason for Golden City No. 1, All Free and Accepted Masons, Colorado; and a member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., USA, Colo-rado. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was an American Indian, a descendant of the "Trail of Tears" tribe and a member of the Cherokee Nation. Born in Great Bend, Kan., he lived in Seattle, Colorado and Ohio before moving to New Jersey in 1993, settling in Howell. Surviving are his wife, Karen C. Mayfield of Howell; two sons, Billy and Jason Mayfield, both of Spartanburg, S.C.; two stepdaughters, Kim Mayfield of Spartanburg, and Carrie Nocine of Howell; his parents, William and Dorothy Mayfield of Renton, Wash.; three sisters, Ronda Pampourlos, Sharon Goehring and Vicki Ellis; and two grandchildren. Services were held at C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, in the Adelphia section of Howell. Interment was in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arnytown
